The Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration is a museum located on the island that tells the story of the millions of immigrants who passed through its gates.
Visiting the museum can be a moving and emotional experience, as you learn about the struggles and sacrifices that these immigrants made in pursuit of a better life. The museum features exhibits that showcase the journey that immigrants took to get to America, the medical exams and screenings that they underwent upon arrival, and the challenges that they faced as they settled into their new lives. The museum also includes personal stories and artifacts from immigrants who passed through Ellis Island, providing a more intimate and human perspective on this important moment in American history. As I wandered through the exhibits, I couldn't help but be struck by the diversity of the immigrant experience, as well as the many challenges that these individuals faced in their quest for a better life. Whitstable, KentAt the end of July, for my birthday, I attended the annual Whitstable Oyster Festival. What a great day out! Whitstable is a seaside town, on the north coast of Kent in south-east England, known as the "Pearl of Kent" for its famous oysters, which have been collected in the area since Roman times. In 1830, one of the earliest passenger railway services was opened by the Canterbury and Whitstable Railway Company; in 1832, the company opened Whitstable harbour and extended the line to enable passage to London from the port. The railway has since closed but the harbour still plays an important role in the town's economy. In the summer 2012, I visited the Villa Cattolica, a classical baroque villa at the edge of the city of Bagheria, housing the works of Renato Guttuso and other famous masters of the 20th century. © ANNA BIANCO // All works by Anna Bianco.
